What does a good sheep look like?

Since the Lord is our Shepherd, I'm curious about what it looks like to be a good sheep? I don't know much about sheep. They just eat grass, wander freely around the pasture, then the shepherd takes them to new pastures to get more grass? Are they going somewhere in particular?

How does a sheep become a shepherd?

This metaphor of sheep and shepherd is confusing to me. The Lord is my Shepherd, so doesn't that mean I'm always a sheep? How does a sheep become a shepherd? I think I'd be more comfortable being a sheep that is closer to the Shepherd, and then some of the other sheep could follow me as I'm following Him. But that's not what the scriptures say; they say we're actually supposed to be shepherds (1 Peter 5:2 is very clear - be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers...) I may be overthinking this, but I'd love any thoughts.

Do We Ever Graduate From Being Sheep?

How does someone know when they've moved from sheep to shepherd?  Once they are a shepherd, how long does their shepherd keep meeting with them?  I know it depends on the individual, and it might be too hard to say a time, but what are the milestones?

Do We Have To Label Our Relationships?

Have you ever had a relationship that was basically a shepherding relationship but was "undeclared"? Do you find value in defining it and if so, what value? Or do you just let the relationship continue as is?

Exciting Meeting Last Night

Using the Guesstimator 2000 (read: the Thereabouts Machine that is my brain), it seemed like around 125 folks showed up last night to be taught some about shepherding, and most of those people indicated (via use of the Sign-Up) that they want to be plugged into these kinds of relationships.  We were DELIGHTED, to say the least.  Awesome.  God's doing something!

It seems as if this may be a forum exclusively for shepherds, as opposed to the shepherdED, and if so, we'll start treating it that way.  At any rate, we'll be giving updates here (like, when we get everybody matched up and the mentor/mented meetings start up, we'll say so here), and taking questions here.  And we'll be publishing stories here.  It's... good.

Go... and make disciples.

The Manual!

The Meeting Together Manual that I just talked about at the meeting is right here.  Click it and get the manual.  Then start studying the Bible separately, meeting together, and get MOVING toward Christlikeness and Kingdom community!  Yum!

Meeting With 2 Folks Instead of 1?

I've heard you say that you always think it's better to meet 3 people at a time (one leader, two folks being led). Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but it's feeling more natural to me when I'm meeting one on one vs. where I have 2 people. Any tips? What are the benefits, other than obviously less time commitment?

How Many People Should I Be Taking Care Of?

How many people should I be taking care of?  There are so many people I could give my time to (which is ironic since I'm about to start a new job.  It's hard to say no when people are in need...  Any thoughts?  My family is my priority, but I want to make room for this, too... in moderation.

This is the Blog.

TOLD YOU there was a blog!  And this is it!  Hah!

This is gonna be the place for questions and answers, discussions, stories of woe and victory, and just a place for connecting.  We're going to remain a loose, disorganized family of people who're walking the same way in Jesus, so don't worry about getting hit up for anything.  Ain't gonna happen.  Let me know if this can be more helpful or what-not.
