How's It Going?
What's the news out there? What are the flocks looking like? Are you getting together and getting into one another's lives? Specifically, are you getting into each other's relationships with God? And...?
I have met with my shepard for the first time last night and things are off to a great start! I have not met with my sheep yet. We had a planned meeting and then things changed on his end and we have not rescheduled yet. I hope to do that soon.
On a separate note, I wanted to provide some constructive criticism. I am not sure how it worked out with the guys side, but I think everyone got matched up. However, on the women's side I know there were two people that did not get matched up. One was my wife. I think that somehow the whole matching process could have been done better, so as to not leave people out. I know she is still interested in a shepard and if you could provide some guidance or direction that would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hey there Steve, it's Alli. The "women situation" was this: we had about 3 times the number of sheep to shepherds. There just simply weren't enough female shepherds. It's really as simple as that. About 8-12 women did not get matched. We did our best and I'm sorry Meredith was one of them.
Most willing shepherdesses would not do more than 1 woman...I only assigned 2-3 to 2 people. I asked that the women seriously consider taking more, but did not get any takers.
One other comment about the matches: we had an age/experience issue as well. Many younger sheep wanted older shepherds (or at least more life-experience ... (being wife/mother/etc), or we had young shepherds who did not want older sheep. I went outside the list and even spoke with some women that I know personally who I thought would be good for this kind of relationship but, again, did not get anyone who would accept sheep.
Just wanted to let you know that Shepherdland is going great!!! I'm being shepherded (is that a real word?) awesomely (is that also a real word?) and my "sheep" is probably going to be more of a shepherd to me than I am to him (I guess that's ok as long as he does'nt feel he got too short an end of the stick). What a great concept this is - I see this having a very positive impact and growing exponentially (I know that's a real word!) - from Claude Corbitt
This, as you already must know, is just a common ground for those of us who're giving this shepherding/mentoring thing a crack. You can ask questions, start discussions, reach out for some help, or just peruse. Steve Manuel will be monitoring everything to make sure everybody's cared for that needs/wants it. And that's the deal.

ReplyDeleteHey Alli, could we not just assign women in multiples of 2 or 3 to shepherdesses? Or did they ask for only one each or something?

Well, there you go. When they get pedantic on you, one has to remember that all shepherds are, in the end, sheep themselves. Bless em.
