How Many People Should I Be Taking Care Of?

How many people should I be taking care of?  There are so many people I could give my time to (which is ironic since I'm about to start a new job.  It's hard to say no when people are in need...  Any thoughts?  My family is my priority, but I want to make room for this, too... in moderation.

  1. The answer to that question, for me, is found in this prayer: "LORD, to whom am I supposed to be connected?" I don't know how big that number is for anybody else. Between you and me, if lots of members of Christ's Body are saying "we need you in THIS capacity! Please led us!", I'd take notice of that being a bigger issue; maybe this is something you're supposed to give a good chunk of time to weekly. Also: 2 young believers getting PART of you are way better than one believer getting all of you. I really believe that. There will always be more sheep than shepherds. It is always appropriate to turn people away when you don't feel that you're supposed to be connected to them (I really am okay with that), but I would like everybody to accommodate as many people as they can. I also happen to believe that, no matter how busy anybody's life is, they should be able to take on ONE meeting with two sheep. If your life is too busy to obey Jesus' command to reproduce--his final, end-sum command--there might be something there worth investigating with God...

    Here endeth the sermon.
